Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club St Patricks Day Special
Craig Charles (BBC 6 Music)
Booka Brass Band (live)
Cabaret, Circus and Dance by Forgotten Circus
Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club is getting an ultra green makeover for one night only. On Friday 17th March Craig Charles brings his vivacious Funk & Soul Club to the Electric Ballroom in London for a St Patrick’s Day Special.
And there’s no one more perfect than Mr Charles to spend with Paddy’s Night with. Being half Irish himself, Craig captures the party spirit of the emerald isle in his high octane DJ’s sets and an impeccable groove that just keeps on going and growing! Like an Irish drinking game, this is a guy who can DJ all other DJ’s under the floor. Armed with a hefty pot of salaciously good Funk & Soul cuts, Charles fans needn’t venture to the end of the rainbow for gold – expect a journey through the hey-days of both genres via Craig’s glorious selection of vintage vinyl, along with contemporary twist and shouts.
And as a special live treat and to make this party all the more authentic, we are flying a very special act over from Dublin to be with us. Booka Brass Band have been taking the world by storm. Ireland’s answer to Hot 8 Brass and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble these guys pack the energy into their 8-piece horn hoe-down. After numerous sold-out headline shows and star-studded collaborations Booka Brass released their much-anticipated debut album ‘Chilled Milk’ in September, full of the bands signature melodies and rhythmic pizazz.
Staying on the Irish theme, we also have DJ Kormac who has been championed by everyone from Annie Mac to DJ Yoda. Kormac started out as out as a Hip Hop scratch DJ and MPC beat-maker He joins us for a live performance showcasing his totally unique approach to, what might be called, hip hop by twisting and morphing his meticulous recordings of acoustic instruments into something entirely unique. Still guessing? Maybe it will be like some sort of mental Hip Hop ceilidh!
Sir Funk will also be on hand to set the standards for the night, igniting the Funk flame with his collection of nifty anthems. He’ll be the plastic paddy for the night – you’ll spot him with the leprechaun hat and the pint of Guinness in his hand!
To top it all off we’ll have circus acts and fire breathers to get you all into the St. Patrick’s festival spirit!
Friday night – what better night could St Patrick’s Day fall on, giving us all a much needed two days to recover. This is bound to be a big one and we’re committed to going hard so get ready to parade yourselves in all your green and golden glory.
